Frankfurt Basel 1920 Airmail Service: What a Fiasco |

This airmail service is little known now, and was little known at
the time. The southern end of the route had to be Lörrach, in
Germany but close to Basel, because of post-war restrictions on
German aviation. The service operated for less than two months, and
on only 13 days did a plane reach Lörrach. Only about 100 pieces of
mail were carried north during the entire period of service, and
only about a dozen were carried south.

German Commercial Air Mail 1919-1932 - An Introduction |

The story of the early years of German commercial aviation is set
against the background of post WWI reparations, restrictions on
aircraft, and domestic political upheaval. Equally important was the
economic instability and the impending hyper-inflation culminating
in a new, stable currency in Nov. 1923. Via PowerPoint illustrations
of covers, cards and maps I seek to document the development of
routes, rates, cachets and other markings - and discuss possible
ways of collecting the early history of German airmail. |

Bringing Philatelic Handbooks Back From the Dead |

Most philatelic handbooks are DEAD.  These gems of philatelic
research were printed many years ago. Since their publication
collectors needing updated information had to research subsequent
books, journals and auction catalogs. This presentation provides a
roadmap for capturing the handbooks electronically, updating written
content and  illustrations, and making them electronically
searchable and updatable.  Part of the updating process uses
crowd-sourcing information from other collectors. Revived handbooks
will resuscitate specialty stamp societies and provide a new revenue
			stream. |

Universal Ship Cancellation Society - Two Presentations |

Overview of Portland Rose Festival Ships
The Portland, OR., Rose Festival has a reputation for having a large
number of US Navy ships and thousands of sailors visiting the
festival during the first full week of the month of June. When did
these visitations start? Was this the only time the Navy sent ships
to Portland? What types of warships visited Portland during the Rose
Festival? This presentation will provide a history of the US Navy
			and Portland Rose Festival.
			and

The Battleship Oregon: Berthed at Portland (1925-1942)
For 17 years, the old battleship OREGON was a museum ship along the
Portland waterfront, open for visitors and used by different
organizations for meetings.  She was a popular attraction in
the city, especially for Spanish American War veterans.  During
these years, the ship was depicted on various post cards, and also
referenced on cachet covers.  A project is presently underway
to organize and document covers and material related to OREGON
during her years in Portland.  This presentation will show the
current status of the project and what has been learned.
