Getting Swiss Airmail off the Ground 1913-1923

American Air Mail Society (AAMS)

Switzerland followed a different path toward sustainable airmail service than other countries.  In 1913, carrying covers by plane helped raise consciousness and raised money toward establishment of a Swiss air force.  Then in 1919 service was attempted, flown by the Swiss air force.  But that was not a viable, cost-effective service.  Finally in 1923, sustainable airmail service was established.
